Café Sofia Presents
Café Sofia Presents the iUteurki’Verse
I first met Régis over the phone while hunting for gigs in early 2023. He didn’t have much time to chat, so it was quick conversation. He asked me to send a video, promised to call back, and—ten minutes later—he did, offering us two dates for the season.
Our first show landed on June 26, on a Sunday right in the middle of the 2023 canicule. When we arrived, Régis surprised us: he announced he’d be closing the bar during our set so he could sit outside and enjoy the show himself. He came with family, and during our load-in, he introduced me to the Mayor and a member of the committee behind Saverdun’s big festival, Les Voix Sonneuses.
The concert was memorable and full of heart. Régis and his family claimed the big table, front row, center. At one point we played Dylan’s Masterpiece, and Régis shouted out that we had to play his 40th birthday—an entire night of Dylan for him and his friends. That party never happened, but the idea became the seed for what became Café Sofia Presents the iUteurki’Verse.
The following summer, Régis invited us back for Independence Day weekend and went all in: he financed a full camera crew, a director, a lighting designer, and an audio engineer to mix the show and capture us in multitrack. I produced it and iUteurki performed three sets—Les FiU, followed by iU Bob, and finally, iUteurki to close the night.
